1. General Regulations


2. The VII international competition- festival of student works of future sound engineers "InTONATION»  (hereinafter referred to as the InTONATION Festival) is held every year aiming at demonstration and evaluation of the the Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television (SPUFT) students’ and professors’ creative achievements as well as students from Russian and foreign schools of Cinematography and Television.
3. Dates of holding the InTONATION Festival: April 19 – 23, 2021.
4. Venue of the InTONATION Festival: Movie and Concert Hall of the Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television (SPUFT) (22, Bukharestskaya street).
5. Objectives and tasks:
• professional training development of students majoring in the Sound Directing of Audiovisual Arts;
• aesthetic beauty development and guidance implementation in the sphere of training specialists for Cinematography and Television aiming at public interest benefits and creative self-actualization of a person;
• professional skills advancement facilitation for students and academic teaching staff in the State Federal-Funded Educational Institution of Higher Professional Training Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television under the specialist training course in the Sound Directing of Audiovisual Arts;
• promotion of maintaining and strengthening relationships between the Sound Directing Department of SPUFT and creative workshops within the yearly works and diploma projects fulfillment period;
• international relationships strengthening, creative and professional contacts increase, experience and ideas exchange between creative workshops, film schools and students in Russia and other countries;
• public attention drawing to young generation’s creativity - rising professionals of Cinematography and Television;
• young cinema support and its social and cultural status formation. Discovery and promotion of the most talented and perspective students and academic teachers.

2. Organization of the InTONATION Festival
1. The InTONATION Festival is organized and held by SPUFT. 
2. The Organizing Committee is approved by the SPUFT Rector’s order to organize and hold the InTONATION Festival. The Organizing Committee of the InTONATION Festival shall nominate the Selection Board with leaders of the creative student workshops on Sound Directing to be included into it.
3. The InTONATION Festival is held in the Movie and Concert hall of SPUFT as agreed upon with the management body of the University.
4. The InTONATION Festival includes the opening and closing ceremonies, competition and non-competition film shows, and workshops by lead cultural and art figures.

 

3. The InTONATION Festival programme:
• Competition programme includes short-length fiction films, documentaries and animated films performed by students during their education process.
• Debut student works competition (debut work – the first work filmed during the education process, usually on the 1st or 2nd year of study).
• Non-competition shows of student works from film schools.

4. Terms for Films Participation in the Contest Programme
1. The InTONATION Festival admits to participation films of students and trainees of SPUFT and foreign film schools (films made during the education process, as well as yearly works and graduation works), which have not been submitted to the InTONATION Festivals before. It is allowed to submit to the InTONATION Festival not more than two works for each nomination from one student majoring in the Sound Directing of Audiovisual Arts.
2. Film length shall not be more than 25 minutes. The films are registered by the Organizing Committee of the InTONATION Festival according to the registration forms filled in by the authors and agreed upon with the leader of a creative student workshop on Sound Directing.
3. Films submitted to the InTONATION Festival participation shall have captions and copyright in compliance with the established rules.
4. Copy of a film on a digital media and a link for film downloading shall be given to the Sound Directing Department of SPUFT marked with: Film Title, Author, Length.
5. Copies of films on digital media submitted to the InTONATION Festival participation shall not be given back to authors but kept in the Contest-Festival archive.
6. Films submitted to the InTONATION Festival participation are considered by the Organizing Committee.
7. Films selected and not selected by the Organizing Committee shall not be reviewed.
8. Date, show time and place in the competition programme of a selected film are defined by the Organizing Committee of the InTONATION Festival.

5. The InTONATION Contest-Festival Jury
1. To select the winners of the InTONATION Festival, the professional and competent jury and the student jury shall be assembled. Number of members of the jury is not less than three persons. The jury is nominated by the Organizing Committee of the InTONATION Festival.

6. The InTONATION Festival Awards and Diplomas
1. Regarding the results of meetings of the jury, the prizes are as follows:

o Grand Prix (awarded to the winner film's director and sound engineer);
o Award for Best Sound Engineering in a Fiction Feature Film;
o Award for Best Sound Engineering in a Non-fiction Film;
o Award for Best Sound Engineering in an Animated Film;
o Award for Best Sound Engineering Debut;
o Audience Award;
o Special Jury Prize in honor of Elena Sladkovskaya "For the Beauty and Sincerity of Intonations”
o Special Jury Prize in honor of Aliakper Hasan-Zade "For the Search of the Absolute and its Embodiment”;
o Special Jury Prize in honor of Gregory Frank "For Uniqueness»;
o Special Jury Prize in honor of Boris Andreev "For the Expressiveness of the Sound Design”;
o Special jury prizes.

2. The jury has a right to nominate some individual features of works in the Festival.
3. If a prize-winner of the InTONATION Festival has no opportunity to get his/her prize during the closing ceremony, the prize can be given to the winner after the Festival completion in the Organizing Committee. The prize can be given to members of a creative group of the winning film.
