St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television is the only university in the Northwest of Russia that trains bachelors in the specialization "Television". The television screen is a window to the huge and multifaceted world of politics, culture, sports, nature, travel, human relations. State, society and people need information, education and entertainment provided by the television industry.

Television is a means of mass media. Correspondents, editors and presenters create the information field that has an impact on attitudes of the audience about the society and state.

Television is an art. Each television programme reflects a director’s, artist’s, cameraman’s artistic vision of the world.

Television is business. Production and broadcasting of TV programmes require effective management of TV company resources by producers, broadcast programming managers, specialists in advertising and public relations.

Television is technology. Picture and sound recording, programme editing with computer graphics, programme broadcasting via network, cable, satellite and the internet television are carried out by television engineers.

At the end of study, students become well qualified experts in the field of television and develop their editorial, analytical, organizational, managerial, socio-organizational and technological competencies. Hundreds of organizations provide television broadcasting and production, and large media holdings are among them. Well and widely qualified experts are especially in demand in medium-sized and small TV companies broadcasting in each Russian region.

Industrial companies, TV companies, state bodies need professionals capable of reflecting the activity of an organization via audio-visual materials using artistic and technological TV resources. The internet provides the opportunity to everyone to express themselves by uploading their audio-visual work and let the network media community evaluate it.

Personal video camera and video editing software are publicly available, and those who are talented and professionally educated will certainly succeed.
